Katy and Will are a fun loving couple who were one of the last couples able to celebrate their wedding before this year’s covid-19 quarantine at Archeo in the Distillery District. Katy and Will met during their practicum and have a love for fitness and adventure – so much so that they’ve even completed the Tough Mudder together!
While Will was getting ready at his parents’ house, Katy and her bridesmaids decided to relive some of their happy university memories as they got ready at a loft-style Airbnb (complete with a swing!). They all lived in the same house throughout university and would pull their mattresses to the living room for a sleepover, so what better way to celebrate Katy’s big day than to have a girls’ bonding session before her big day?
Photographer confession time: I loved Katy’s first look with her dad. Though both of her parents were at the Airbnb the day of the wedding, Katy took their breath away in her dress. Katy didn’t expect there to be so much emotion! It was a beautiful thing to witness. In true Katy fashion, Katy wore her floral runners to make sure she could dance the night away.
To match their sweet, laidback style, Will and Katy decided to have their first looks and couple portraits taken at the loft. The loft was a bright space with lots of greenery, thanks to some big windows and all the indoor plants. Though we were only there for a few hours, it makes you feel right at home. If you’re a plant lover like me, this loft is the place to be.
Distillery District’s Archeo
Will and Katy’s ceremony and reception were both held at Archeo in Toronto’s historic Distillery District. The couple had a soft spot for Archeo in the Distillery District because it was the backdrop for a few of Will and Katy’s cozy date nights and it matched their calm, relaxed vibes. Will and Katy’s ceremony included a Korean ceremony called Paebaek. Katy and Will shared some beautiful moments with lots of laughs, and Will had a smile so big, it was clear he couldn’t contain his excitement to be married!
When you’re deciding on a wedding venue, here are some things to consider:
1. Having bright space for getting ready really helps (large windows)
2. If you can, find a place close to the venue so you don’t spend too much time travelling between places.
3. Don’t be surprised if you surprise yourself – there might be a local hidden gem hiding right under your nose!
